A Path to Pixar

SPM Path to Pixar | Produced by Luu Nguyen | The State Press on Vimeo.

Senior film student Joann Younan is a "third storyteller."

Third storytellers, she says, are film editors who come in during post-production and assemble the pieces of a story together that end up on the big screen.

This past summer, she jumpstarted her aspiration to become a film editor by working as an intern for Pixar Animation Studios.

From hugging John Lassetter to feeling like part of the Pixar family, Younan worked in pre-production for the company’s upcoming release, "Finding Dory." As an intern, she learned about the different aspects of the film industry by talking with the employees in all of the departments of the studio and absorbing every bit of information she could from Pixar’s creative minds.

Younan’s drive and passion as a young film student, she says, is what helps push her to pursue her dreams. She is currently competing for the position of second assistant editor at Pixar.

When asked what advice she’d give to students wanting to pursue their dreams, Younan quotes the recent travel film, "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty", and encourages her peers to remember that, “Adventure waits for no one.”
