Tempe Police: Woman criminally trespasses, carries drugs in bra

Tempe police reported the following incidents Friday:

  • A 47-year-old woman was arrested Jan. 28 on the northeast corner of South Price Road and East Apache Boulevard on suspicion of criminal trespassing and drug possession and use, according to a police report.Police said the woman was standing on the corner of the intersection with a sign that read, “Can you spare some change?” with two bags of personal belongings on the ground next to her.

She was standing around 7 feet away from a state of Arizona sign that said it was illegal to trespass on this corner, according to police.

Officers said a records check on the woman revealed she was given a warning for this same behavior on the same corner on Dec. 14.

After police apprehended her, officers asked the woman if she had used drugs recently and she said she had used “meth” the night before but did not have any on her person, according to the report.

Police then checked her for methamphetamine and found $2 along with a baggie with two small crystallized rocks in her bra, the report said.

The woman said she knew she still had methamphetamine on her person and said she would have used it, police said.

The woman was transported to Tempe City Jail, where she was booked and released pending charges, according to the report.

  • A 23-year-old man was arrested Jan. 24 in the alleyway just east of the Jack in the Box on the 700 block of South Mill Avenue on suspicion of possession and use of marijuana, according to a police report.Police said they observed a black Toyota Corolla, occupied by five people, parked in the alleyway in the early morning.

Officers approached the car when the man opened one of the car doors and said, “What’s up?” according to the report.

When the man opened the door, officers were able to smell marijuana, police said.

The man was removed from the vehicle and showed signs of being under the influence of marijuana, the report said.

The officers then found a stash of marijuana in the door handle of the seat where the man had previously been sitting, according to the report.

In a post-Miranda interview, the man said the marijuana was not his and he did nothing wrong, according to police.

The man was transported to Tempe City Jail, where he was booked and released pending charges, according to the report.
