Tempe Police reported the following incidents Sunday:

  • A 19-year-old Tempe man was arrested April 7 on the 5000 block of South Arizona Mills Circle on suspicion of burglary unlawful entry and giving a false report to law enforcement, according to a police report.

A mall security officer observed the man walking away from a vehicle wearing the car owner’s poncho and lanyard, according to the report.

The car belonged to a different mall security officer, police said.

A search of the man revealed he had also taken the stereo’s auxiliary cable from the car, the report said.

The man also had two bottles of men’s cologne in his pockets, which he said he stole from a store inside the mall, according to the report.

The man told police he was “getting a poncho for his brother,” the report stated.

Mall security video surveillance revealed the man had checked at least five other car doors before opening the vehicle, police reported.

The man spent approximately one minute inside the vehicle, according to the report.

During a post-Miranda interview, the man gave police a name and date of birth that turned out to be his younger brother’s, according to the report.

Officers arrested the man at the parking lot of Arizona Mills Mall and transported him to Tempe City Jail, where he was booked and held to see a judge, police said.

  • A 38-year-old Scottsdale man was arrested April 20 on the 700 block of East Weber Drive on suspicion of drug paraphernalia and dangerous drug possession and use, according to a police report.

The man was arrested after a witness called police and said he was smoking methamphetamine out of a glass pipe in the laundry room of an apartment complex, police said.

Officers contacted the man and he consented to a search of his belongings and his person, police reported.

A search revealed a glass pipe used to smoke methamphetamine hidden inside his right leg sock, according to the report.

During a post-Miranda interview, the man told police he used the pipe to smoke a $10 rock of meth in the laundry room, police reported.

The man also said he bought the meth from someone at the Carl's Jr. down the street, but later said he had bought it from someone who lives in the apartment complex, according to the report.

The man was transported to Tempe City Jail, where he was booked and released pending charges, the report stated.
