Tempe Police reported the following incidents Tuesday:

A 25-year-old Tempe man was arrested Sept. 6 at McClintock Drive and Western Canal on suspicion of armed robbery, resisting arrest and aggravated assault on a police officer, according to a police report.

The man walked into the Safeway store at 1515 E. Elliot Road, where he went to the U.S. Bank and demanded money by showing a note to the teller, police reported.

After receiving the money from the tellers the man fled the scene, police reported.

The man shoved the stolen money down the front of his pants and underwear and changed his clothes behind the Safeway store, according to the report.

A officer responded to the call, spotted the man, who fit the physical description but had slightly different clothing, and tried to stop him, according to the report.

The man resisted the police by scratching, throwing dirt and rocks, and punching the officer in the ribs and stomach, according to the report.

Other officers were able to help detain the man, who was identified as the robber by the witness and the victim, police reported.

The officer was taken to a hospital, where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries, according to the report.

The man said he had trouble breathing after the altercation and was taken to Tempe St. Luke’s Hospital where was treated and released, according to the report.

The man lied about the possession of the stolen money, claiming two other people had coaxed him into holding the money for them for the fee of $200, police reported.

Then he admitted entering the bank, passing the note, taking the money, changing and dumping his clothes, and assaulting the officer, according to the report.

The man was transported to Tempe City Jail, where he was booked and held to see a judge, police reported.

A 33-year-old Mesa woman was arrested Sept. 7 at the intersection of Southern Avenue and Terrace Road on suspicion of aggravated DUI, according to a police report.

The woman was driving a vehicle with severe front end damage and was stopped for several violations, police reported.

When officers pulled the woman over, she showed numerous signs of intoxication, including slurred speech, bloodshot and watery eyes, swaying, staggering and strong alcohol smell on her breath, police said.

According to the report, an investigation revealed the woman had been involved in a car accident before she was stopped. The woman said she was aware she had hit something but didn’t know what it was and assumed it was a sign or a median, police reported.

The woman said she had four beers before driving the car and submitted to a test which showed all six cues of impairment, according to the report. A record check revealed her license was revoked in 2009 as a result of a DUI conviction, police reported.

Arizona DPS investigated the collision and cited the woman in a separate incident for hit and run violations, police said.

The woman was booked and held to see a judge, according to the report.
