Tempe Police: Man shoves officer, calls him racist

Tempe Police reported the following incidents Sunday:

A 26-year-old Phoenix man was arrested Sept. 12 on the 400 block of Mill Avenue on suspicion of aggravated assault on a police officer and passively resisting arrest, according to a police report.

The man was contacted by police as part of a disorderly conduct investigation which occurred at School of Rock bar, police reported.

A few minutes into the investigation the man became argumentative and uncooperative with police, according to the report.

The man called one officer racist and said, "You ain't s--- and isn't gonna do s---," police reported.

The man then clenched his fists and tensed his shoulders and moved towards the officer, according to the report.

The officer asked the man multiple times to sit down, but the man disregarded the requests, police reported.

The man then assaulted the officer by striking him in the chest with both hands, causing the officer to be forced backwards, according to the report.

The man's friend stepped in to try to stop him but he continued his aggressive behavior even after two officers grabbed hold of him, police reported.

An officer told the man multiple times, "You're under arrest," and, "Stop resisting," while trying to get his hands behind his back, according to the report.

The man continued to resist, knocking over chairs, even though police threatened to use a taser on him, police reported.

The man was forced to the ground where officers wrestled with him, eventually getting his hands behind his back and cuffing him, according to the report.

The man was transported to Tempe City Jail, where he was booked and held to see a judge.

A 26-year-old Chandler man was arrested on the corner of West Baseline Road and South Kyrene Road on suspicion of possession of weaponry by a prohibited person and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to a police report.

The man was contacted by police after running across the intersection of West Baseline Road and South Kyrene Road during a red light without using the crosswalk, police reported.

When officers contacted the man, what appeared to be a thin metal rod was protruding from the man's waistband, according to the report.

Officers asked the man if he had any weapons on him and he said he had a knife and began to reach towards his waistband, police reported.

A pat down was conducted on the man and the knife was removed from his waistband, according to the report.

During the pat down a syringe was found in the man's pocket and the officer asked him what it was used for and the man said it was for injecting methamphetamine, police reported.

The man was then placed under arrest, according to the report.

At the time of contact the man was in possession of a white box for a Dremel drill and a search of the box revealed a 12 caliber semi-automatic Davis Industrial handgun, police reported.

The man told officers the liquid inside of the syringe was methamphetamine, and he had filled the syringe to use later, according to the report.

The man said the gun was given to him by his cousin to sell for $70 and he would get a portion of the money for selling it, police reported.

The man said he was a convicted felon and served four years in prison for a burglary offense, according to the report.

The man said since his release he had not had his rights restored and knew he could not possess a firearm, police reported.

The man was transported to Tempe City Jail where he was booked, according to the report.
