Tempe Police: Man shoplifts alcohol at local Safeway


Tempe Police reported the following incidents Monday:

A 44-year-old Surprise man was arrested Oct. 9 at Broadway Road and South 48th Street on suspicion of shoplifting and having an outstanding warrant, according to a police report.

A Safeway loss prevention employee saw the man put a bottle of brandy in his rear pants pocket and exit the store, police reported.

The employee followed the man and confronted him in the parking lot, at which time the man started running westbound on Broadway Road, according to the report.

Police confronted the man at a bus stop on Broadway Road and the Safeway employee identified the man, according to the report.

The man was also found to have an outstanding warrant, police reported.

He was then transported to Tempe City Jail, where he was booked and held to see a judge, according to the report.


A 20-year-old woman was arrested Oct. 9 on the 1200 block of East Apache Boulevard on suspicion of dangerous drug, narcotic drug and drug paraphernalia possession, according to a police report.

The woman was driving on Apache Boulevard when police pulled her over for a vehicle stop, police reported.

Officers found a baggy containing marijuana residue on the front passenger floorboard during a search of the car, according to the report.

They also found a container with hash and a paper bag containing a glass meth pipe in the back passenger seat, police reported.

During a search of the woman’s purse, officers found a baggy containing meth, police reported.

The woman said the hash was hers, but she told officers she did not know about the pipe, according to the report.

She said the meth in her purse was her sister’s boyfriend's, police reported.

The woman was transported to Tempe City Jail, where she was booked and held to see a judge, according to a police report.
