The long wait for the return of ASU men's basketball ended Friday night as the team participated in its annual Maroon and Gold Scrimmage.

While the results of this game must be taken with a grain of salt considering these players have been facing off against each other in practice all offseason, there were some bright spots.

First and foremost was sophomore forward Savon Goodman. A transfer from UNLV and Indian Hills Community College, Goodman showed a lot of aggressiveness getting to the rim tonight, as well as playing tough on the defensive end.

He also produced two of the game's most exciting moments as he dunked over freshman guard Kodi Justice in the first half and then had a breakaway dunk later in the game.

Freshman forward Connor MacDougall was a pleasant surprise for the Sun Devils. After missing a few days after being hit by a car, MacDougall played very well down low, boxing out and making plays with the ball in his hands.

He outplayed junior Eric Jacobsen for most of the scrimmage and seemed to find himself playing time by showing himself as the best post player on the roster.

Junior guards Roosevelt Scott and Gerry Blakes were less consistent than the main stars, but had their moments. Both showed athleticism on both sides of the floor. Both were able to get to the basket and finish.

Overall, both teams showed great ball movement and were able to move the ball quickly off of misses. Every player was able to get involved on fast breaks and the pace kept up for most of the game, which had to please coach Herb Sendek.

As the season quickly approaches, the team seems to be in a good place to start its schedule next Friday.
