One of the men facing charges related to the death of nonprofit leadership and management freshman Naomi McClendon in March was sentenced to 18 months of probation Wednesday morning, officials said.

He pleaded guilty to being a minor in possession of alcohol, said Karen Arra, a spokeswoman for the Maricopa County Superior Court.

In addition to the probation term, Maricopa County Superior Court Commissioner Julie Newell sentenced him to a deferred jail term of 45 days. He was ordered to complete 30 hours of community service and cannot consume alcohol as a condition of his probation, Arra said.

His co-defendant has entered a not guilty plea so far and is scheduled for an initial pretrial conference on Dec. 4 at 8:30 a.m., Arra said.

The co-defendant is charged with being a minor in possession of alcohol and also faces a charge of failing to require identification when serving alcohol at the party in question, records show.

The two were part of the group of six men indicated in a report conducted by the Department of Liquor Licenses and Control as taking part in supplying McClendon with alcohol on the night she died.

McClendon, 18, fell 10 stories off a balcony at 922 Place to her death on March 30 after she attended a party hosted by Alpha Epsilon Pi. ASU had revoked the fraternity's charter because of many violations before the incident.

McClendon’s friend told authorities she had left McClendon in the apartment because she was extremely intoxicated, according to the report released by the Department of Liquor Licenses and Control.
