Downtown Phoenix streets closed for Super Bowl events

With the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks taking on Super Bowl XLIX, fans from all over the country will be coming to Phoenix to view the game and celebrate the many events that come along with it.

Since Jan. 20, several streets in downtown Phoenix have been closed due to the Super Bowl-themed events beginning Jan. 28.

Verizon Super Bowl Central, a massive block party spanning 12 city blocks, will close off Central Avenue through 3rd Street from Monroe to Jefferson streets beginning Jan. 28 through Feb. 1.

Road closures due to the Super Bowl and related events will be lifted Feb. 4. Central Avenue from Jefferson to Washington streets will remain closed through February for the Cityscape ice rink.

In order to accommodate the massive amounts of visitors, the Valley Metro light rail will extend operating hours to 2 a.m. on Jan. 28 and 29. Several express and rapid bus lines will run until 2 a.m. Jan. 26 through 31 and until 5 p.m. on Feb. 1.

ASU's intercampus shuttles will continue to run at the regular weekday and weekend times Jan. 24 through Feb. 1, but delays are expected to increase.
