Both hashtags #KanyeForPres and #Kanye2020 dominate social media as the great Yeezus declared his candidacy for the oval office.

As The State Press editorial board sat down to discuss the topic, jokes such as “North West wing” and “Just imagine Kim K as the first lady,” were tossed around as laughter took over the room and images of Kanye standing at a lectern in Iowa or New Hampshire vying for our vote played in our minds.

But how far fetched is the idea of this immense public icon becoming president? After all, Arnold Schwarzenegger became governor of California, and Donald Trump is running for the GOP nomination in 2016. It seems as if political races are turning into popularity contests, but can the homecoming king really become the school principal?

Despite his lack of political experience, here are a few reasons Kanye might be Yeezus, the lord and savior of the executive office.

He is passionate

Despite the media feeding off of his various stunts, Kanye is in the limelight often because of his passionate nature. He states exactly how he feels without remorse, and this is something the public will respect him for. Much like Donald Trump or Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vermont), he says it like it is. In the age of political-speak and canned statements from our elected officials, Kanye knows himself (see: "I Am A God").

As showcased in his 2015 VMA speech last night, Kanye is passionate about the well-being of the next generation as well as our own, fostering self-esteem and striving for success in their lives. “We're not gonna teach low self esteem and hate to our kids. We're gonna teach our kids that they can be something. That they can stand up for themselves.”

Not only that, but in the same speech, he acknowledged how heavily the media broadcasts incidences creating for unnecessary conflicts, saying, “I'm not no politician bro, and look at that. You know how many times MTV ran that footage again? Because it got more ratings? Do you know how many times they announced Taylor was gonna give me this award? Because it got more ratings?”

Kanye advocates for numerous issues such as racial equality and class equality through his lyrics, “I feel the pain in my city wherever I go, 314 soldiers died in Iraq, 509 died in Chicago.”

He gets things done

Before Kanye was the musical sensation that he is today, he was a producer struggling to get a record-deal. Numerous individuals claimed he didn’t have it, but he has quickly rose to the top. The same goes with his fashion line. Who’s to say he couldn’t quickly rise to the top in the realm of politics?

Kanye has many admirable qualities that could transfer into becoming an admirable politician. However, he lacks the political experience to run for presidency. Perhaps #KayneForGovernor is an adequate campaign plan. Until 2020 arises, we will be watching as Kanye continues his pursuit of taking over America.
