Talking 'Orange Is The New Black' and EDM with Cazzette

Just four years ago, two Swedish music producers, Alexander Björklund and Sebastian Furrer, were exchanging mad-fire mixtapes over MySpace, which is a #throwback to say the least. Since those days, they have fused and turned into Cazzette.

These dudes should be taken seriously, especially given their more than 100 million streams on Spotify in the past year, and two chart-topping hits on the Billboard Dance Chart they have under their belts. Their most recent EP, “Desserts,” features some wildly awesome vocalists, including Sterling Fox, Newtimers, Buster Moe and LP.

The lead single, “Together (Till The Morning),” is the ultimate late-night jam. The tune features fellow Swedish club royalty Newtimers and takes you on an emotional ride with its easy piano and saxophone presence before dropping some heavy baritone beats. It's bomb for the club, the gym or just pulling a random all-nighter with the squad.

To follow up, “Genius,” featuring Swedish new-kid-on-the-block Buster Moe, is just what the title implies. This jam is uplifting, catchy, thrilling and definitely one of those songs that is so good, you can’t stay still. If you find yourself bopping your head, clapping, twerking or fist-pumping before the end of the song, don’t worry — those are normal reactions.

The music video for "Genius" captures the dreamiest side of living. Björklund and Furrer take a fantastic voyage across Ibiza and live it up to the max. As they explore, the producers take in the unreal beauty of the Spanish islands. The video even features a special appearance from Australian celebrity Ruby Rose, who starred in the most recent season of the Netflix-original series “Orange Is the New Black."

"We get to meet a lot of cool people when we travel," Alexander said. "Ruby just happened to be playing a set there, too, so we met up."

Back in 2013, Cazzette was already dominating the electronic dance music scene. Their mega-hit “Beam Me Up” owned the clubs and the radio airwaves with an infectious and catchy tone. The music video/mini-film racked up more than 7 million views on YouTube.

Despite the notable success, Björklund doesn’t consider "Beam Me Up" to be their best work. He describes this period in their artistry as an attempt to stay within the typical dance music style.

Cazzette has since burned down those barriers and the group has lost its fear of taking risks. That’s why their latest tour has allowed them to turn up and travel around the world, all the way from Europe to South America, and on to Maya Day and Night Club in Scottsdale on Friday.

Alexander said fans can expect "a good time" at all of their shows. And if the shows are anything like the latest EP, they'll be turnt for sure.

Despite the wild lifestyle that stereotypically accompanies the EDM lifestyle, Björklund said the duo keeps it cool, calm and collected while on tour. Both of them love to interact in person and online with their energetic fanbase. Alex fondly recalled with a giggle a time when fans got a little too excited and almost caused them to miss their flight.

Since Cazzette has already established itself as a major player in the music industry and performed at Miami's Ultra Festival two years in a row, there's not much left to conquer, but Björklund said there is still room to grow.

"We'd love to perform at Coachella," he said.
