Tempe Police: Man claims he cannot read signs, still walks on bridge

Tempe Police reported the following incidents Tuesday:

A New York man was arrested Sept. 26 at West Washington Street and North Mill Avenue on suspicion of criminal trespassing, according to a police report.

Officers were first called to the scene after the man was observed crossing the light rail bridge over Tempe Town Lake, police reported. The bridge bars pedestrian access and has signs in several languages throughout the area, according to the report.

Police reported the man stated he could not read the signs because he did not have his glasses.

The man was arrested and transported to Tempe City Jail, where he was held to see a judge, according to the police report.


A Phoenix woman was arrested Sept. 26 at West Third Street and South Mill Avenue on suspicion of possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, according to a police report.

Officers first arrived to the scene when they spotted the woman smoking marijuana in her vehicle, police said.

Police then spotted several items of drug paraphernalia when officers observed vehicle, according to the report.

The woman was transported to Tempe City Jail, where she was booked and released pending charges, police reported.
