Tempe Police: Man punched after arguing over movie seat, breaks bones in face

Tempe Police reported the following incident Monday:

A 29-year-old man was arrested March 10 on the 1400 block of East Baseline Road on suspicion of aggregated assault and disorderly conduct, according to a police report.

A man and his girlfriend entered the AMC Centerpoint movie theater and discovered another man and woman were in their seats, police reported.

The couple told the man and woman that they were sitting in their seats, according to the report. An argument ensued and the seated man punched the other man in the face, police reported.

The man who threw the punch and the woman he was with left the theater, police reported.

The punch resulted in a variety of facial injuries, including fractures in the nasal region, the left orbital floor, left anterior wall, the left infraorbital area and more, according to the report.

The man and his girlfriend went into the Tempe Police station days later to create a composite sketch of the man who threw the punch, police reported.

The sketch of the man was publicized through social media, television and through an ASU website, according to the report.

After the sketch was released police received an anonymous tip about the man, which later resulted in the couple and a variety of witnesses picking him out of a lineup, according to the report.

After he was arrested, the man said he "didn't think too much of it" and that there were three people getting in his face and grabbing his arm, according to the report.

The man was transported to Tempe City Jail, where he was booked and held to see a judge, police reported.
