Tempe police reported the following incident Sunday:
A man was arrested March 18 in the 100 block of East Sixth Street on suspicion of aggravated assault of an officer and disorderly conduct, according to a police report.
When police arrived, the man had been in a verbal argument with another man on the street, police reported.
As officers yelled “police” and “stop fighting,” another man flipped the man’s baseball cap off his head, which caused the man to push back with his two hands, according to the report.
After the man took several steps backward, officers at the scene arrested him, police reported.
While the man’s friends attempted to place the man into the backseat of a car, he exited and began physically and verbally fight another unknown person, according to the report.
As the man attempted to slap the person, officers took hold of his arm and indicated that they were police officials, but the man pulled his arm free and slapped an officer, police reported.
The officer pulled the man to the ground and arrested him, according to the report.
Following the incident, the man appeared to be drunk, police reported.
The man was transported to Tempe City Jail, where he was booked and held to see a judge, according to the report.
