ASU junior first baseman, Spencer Torkelson (20), strikes out during ASU’s matchup against Team USA baseball at Phoenix Municipal Stadium in Phoenix, Arizona, on Friday, Oct. 25, 2019.

Over 1,000 fans were in attendance at Phoenix Municipal Stadium as ASU baseball concluded its short fall schedule Friday night.

The Sun Devils hosted the USA Baseball Premier12 Team in their final scrimmage of the fall, losing 7-3.

ASU junior right-hander Boyd Vander Kooi started the game for the Sun Devils opposite 24-year old right-hander Parker Dunshee, who plays for the Las Vegas Aviators of the Pacific Coast League.

Team USA struck first in the opening frame by notching two runs.

ASU followed up with a run of its own in the bottom of the inning when junior left fielder Trevor Hauver roped a double to left center to score leadoff man Hunter Jump, a junior outfielder.

Jump had a productive 2-4 night at the plate and scored two of the team’s three runs.

ASU kept Team USA off the board in the second, third and fourth innings, as left-handers,  freshman Cooper Benson and junior Justin Fall, both posted scoreless appearances in relief.

With the score tied 3-3 in the seventh inning, Team USA plated four runs with most of the damage coming on a three-run home run by infielder Bobby Dalbec.

The powerful Team USA pitching lineup struck out 18 batters and held ASU scoreless through the final four frames of the game.

Despite the loss, the Sun Devils totaled eight hits in the game, two more than Team USA.

The exhibition concludes ASU’s fall ball schedule and the team will begin its regular spring season in 2020.

Team USA will head to Tucson Saturday, Oct. 26 to face UA before beginning an Olympic qualifying tournament in Mexico Nov. 2.
