The Sun Devil hockey team split their second to last series of 2019 against Nebraska Omaha over the weekend to move to 10-6-2 on the season.

Saturday

No. 16 ASU was able to come out of Saturday night's contest with a 5-4 comeback over the University of Nebraska Omaha to pick up their 10th win of the season.

The Sun Devils began the evening in a 2-0 hole after allowing goals from Mavericks forwards Nolan Sullivan and Zach Jordan in the first half of the second period.

ASU went on to score four unanswered goals from junior forward Filips Buncis, sophomore forward Jordan Sandhu, junior forward William Knierim and junior forward Johnny Walker in a little over six minutes in the second period to pull ahead 4-2.

Omaha found the back of the net twice in a span of three minutes in the third period to tie the game.

Fortunately for the Sun Devils, senior forward Brett Gruber scored the eventual go-ahead goal shortly after the Mavericks' two-goal burst to secure a win for the Sun Devils.

Goaltender Evan DeBrouwer continued to have a hot hand in the net, making 44 saves on 48 shots in the game.

Sunday

ASU picked up right where it left off on Sunday afternoon, with Sandhu scoring just over a minute into the contest, his second goal in as many games. Junior forward James Sanchez assisted Sandhu's goal for his 14th assist and 20th point on the season.

After ASU got on the board, Mavericks forward Taylor Ward evened the game in the first. Ward also scored the prior evening in the third period against ASU.

Sun Devil sophomore forward PJ Marrocco found the back of the net with just under eight minutes left in the opening period to regain the lead.

After drawing a hooking penalty in the second period, Walker scored his 11th goal of the season on the power-play to give ASU a 3-2 advantage.

Marrocco added his second goal of the night shortly after Walker's goal to double the Sun Devils' lead to 4-2. Marrocco has six goals on the season, with four of those goals coming in the last five games.

The Mavericks scored two goals in less than two minutes at the end of the second period to knot the score at 4-4.

Nebraska Omaha blew the game open with four goals in the third period to extend their lead to 8-4 and down ASU.

ASU heads home to Tempe before packing up for Irvine, California to face No. 17 Harvard in the SoCal Clash for their final two games of 2019.
