The Sun Devils defeated the Brown Bears 3-1 and 4-3 in overtime to improve to 13-8-3 on the season and pick up their second road sweep of the year this weekend.

Saturday

ASU came into the weekend with 67 goals scored on the season compared to Brown's 24, an advantage that certainly played its part over the weekend.

Brown entered Saturday night with three wins and 12 losses on the season, including a seven-game losing streak.

Saturday night, ASU extended that streak to eight as forward Johnny Walker and defenseman Jarrod Gourley both recorded multi-point games to help the Sun Devils topple the Bears 3-1 in the series opener.

Junior forward James Sanchez scored ASU's 21st first-period goal of the 2019-20 season on the power-play to put Brown in a hole 12:41 into the game.

Sanchez has seven goals and a team-leading 26 points this season season.

Gourley scored his first goal of the season 55 seconds after Sanchez's tally to give ASU a two-goal lead with seven minutes left in the first.

Freshman defenseman Jack Judson was handed a five-minute major penalty and game misconduct after colliding with a Brown player in the neutral zone.

Bears forward Brent Beaudoin scored Brown's sole tally of the evening just shy of the five-minute mark into the third period following a goalless middle frame, making the score 2-1.

Junior Fil Buncis put the nail in the coffin by adding an empty-net goal with a minute left in the game to give ASU its 12th victory of the season.

Goaltender Evan DeBrouwer made 34 saves on 35 shots to pick up his 11th win on the year.

Sunday

ASU was handed a tough task in Sunday's matinee after allowing three goals in the second period, but the offense found a burst of life and was able to produce four unanswered goals to mount a comeback over Brown.

Both teams remained scoreless through the first period on Sunday following a 3-1 ASU victory the previous evening.

Brown broke their low-scoring MO and piled three goals in the first five minutes of the second period (from Nathan Plessis, Brent Beaudoin and Connor Marshall) to take a commanding 3-0 lead over ASU.

Evan DeBrowuer was consequently pulled and replaced in net by graduate transfer Max Prawdzik after allowing three goals on nine shots.

Prawdzik finished the game with 18 saves.

Senior captain Brinson Pasichnuk scored his fourth goal and 19th point of the season at 10:46 into the second period to get ASU on the board.

Johnny Walker netted his 13th goal of the season 1:09 into the final period to bring ASU within one goal of Brown. Walker added his second goal of the game and fourth point of the series four minutes later to tie the game.

Neither team was able to find the back of the net for the rest of the third period, sending the game into overtime.

In overtime, defenseman Josh Maniscalco was the hero, scoring to complete ASU's comeback to sweep Brown.

With the 4-3 win—and what was ASU's first overtime win of the season—the Sun Devils improve to 13-8-3 on the year.

ASU returns home to host RIT (11-8-3-0, 7-6-3-0-1 AHA) on Friday, Jan. 17, at 7:05 p.m. MST at Oceanside Ice Arena.
