No. 24 ASU women's tennis swept NAU 7-0 on Sunday in Tempe. The Sun Devils' win is their second home game where they did not concede a point.
ASU picked up the doubles point with consecutive 6-1 victories. Redshirt senior Sammi Hampton and freshman Marianna Argyrokastriti defeated NAU senior Madi Moore and freshman Ava Neyestani to win ASU's first doubles match.
Freshman Giulia Morlet and senior Tereza Kolarova defeated NAU sophomore Elinor Beazley and freshman Gina Dittmann to secure the doubles point for ASU.
Kolarova picked up the first singles win of the game for ASU, winning 6-1, 6-1 against Moore. Argyrokastriti quickly followed Kolarova's win by winning her singles match against Beazley in straight sets.
Senior Lauryn John-Baptiste secured the game-winning point for the Sun Devils by winning her singles match against NAU sophomore Mimi Bland in straight sets 6-2, 6-2.
Hampton continued her success after winning in doubles by defeating NAU senior Ellie Millard in her singles match in straight sets.
Morlet expressed frustration after losing the first set of her singles match 6-3 against Neyestani. Morlet rebounded by winning both the second and third sets 6-0 to secure the sixth point of the day for ASU.
"I was trying to win the first set too quick, so going into the second set, I was beginning to get in my head," Morlet said. "After calming myself down and winning the second set, I began to feel less frustrated and was happy with the final result."
Senior Ilze Hattingh and Dittmann each split a set to begin their singles match, but Hattingh won 10-8 in the tiebreaker set to win her match.
ASU will compete next against Oklahoma on Feb. 6 at 12 p.m. MST in Tempe.
