A shooting near ASU's Tempe Campus on Friday afternoon left one man dead and a suspect critically injured, the Tempe Police Department said in a written statement.
Officers responded to an active shooting scene at 3:18 p.m. at the Camden Tempe apartments located on 800 E. Curry Rd., in Tempe, according to a statement from Tempe PD. Upon arrival, they discovered a man who had been shot. Medics transported him to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police said they also found a second man, whom they referred to as a "suspect," with a gunshot injury "that initially appears to be self-inflicted," according to the statement. He was also transported to a local hospital and remains in critical condition, as of the time of the email at 8:52 p.m. on Friday.
"At this time, the investigation is on-going and there is no threat to the public," the Tempe PD statement said.
