CJ Stevenson:
There we go. Now, Lily, tell me what got you into wrestling.
Lily Willette:
I kind of had a background in Brazilian, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I moved out here from the Midwest around middle school looking for a new sport, and kind of picked it up. I stuck with that sport. I got really into it, really passionate about it. Got multiple state titles in Jiu Jitsu, and then my junior year of high school, actually the head wrestling coach for like Arma High School. He was my history teacher, and so he tried to recruit me onto the wrestling team. Wasn't totally sure on it at first. Kind of sat on it when I was like, You know what? I'm kind of reaching a point of burnout with Jiu Jitsu. I love the sport, but you know what? Might as well switch things up. Things up. And then ended up walking on varsity for high school, and then got second at freestyle state. My senior year was a sectional champ. And then I came to college. I wanted to continue the sport because I was in love with it, and now I wrestle here at ASU
CJ Stevenson:
Nice Lily. Now, what does it mean to be a ladies, sun, Devil wrestler.
Lily Willette:
To me, I think the team here is very like, we're very supportive of each other, and so it means kind of giving it your best on and off the mat. And so when you're on the mat, your teammate, they rely on you. You showed up as your best self, even if you're not feeling it that day, just putting your best foot forward. I mean, they're very intensive workouts and whatnot. And so you're, I mean, you're gonna be going through your bargaining with yourself, but you're with your teammates, and we're all pulling each other through. As teammates always said, find a way in, not a way out. You're always trying to be the next meeting, your next goals, whatever that looks like for you. And yeah, being supportive.
