Women-led organizations are celebrating Women's History Month across campuses with a range of events and activities for students. The offerings include networking, social and service opportunities.

Officially recognized in 1987, March is designated as Women's History Month to celebrate the accomplishments and contributions of women in American history. The month marks the Women's Coalition at ASU's biggest events, programming director Madelyn Forquer, a senior studying sociology, said.

"We at Women's Coalition are very driven to host multiple different events that really honor the multiple women that have trailblazed in terms of history, the arts, culture, all of that stuff," Forquer said.

The coalition is hosting its signature HERstory Block Party on March 30 from 5-8 p.m. at the Sun Devil Fitness Complex Field on the Tempe campus.

The theme for this year's block party is "EmpowerHER." The coalition is striving to showcase the idea of pushing women to pursue what they want, Forquer said.

"It's more crucial than ever that we really encourage women to achieve what it is that they want and that they go for the high accomplishments," Forquer said. "They don't need to settle down for anything less than that."

BLAST Leadership and Service Team at Barrett Polytechnic is also hosting its Women's Empowerment Banquet. BLAST Poly President Eleanora Bernstein, a junior studying business, said this is the organization's third annual banquet.

Bernstein said a former BLAST president wanted to host an event celebrating Women's History Month because the Polytechnic campus "feels so male dominated.

The banquet includes dinner, a door prize and a guest speaker. This year, the organization is adding a community service activity, Bernstein said.

The event is on Friday, March 27, from 5-7 p.m. The banquet will take place at The Garden Commons.

"We want to support not only the community at large, but the community here on the Poly campus and anybody else from ASU who would like to attend," Bernstein said.
