Dead and dying trees in the Sierra and Sequoia National Forests and private lands due to drought-exacerbated beetle infestations are causing problems among mountain residents. Loggers blame the Forest Service for cutting back on mechanical thinning and prescribed burning since the early 1990's. Other say it's an unavoidable consequence of drought.
