Just a day into elections season, one ticket in the executive board race for the Undergraduate Student Government has dropped out. Former presidential candidate Kaci Cadwell and her ticket, which included Vice President of Services candidate Hongbo Xu and Vice President of Policy candidate Christian Gonzalez have decided to leave the race. "Due to personal reasons and other ambitions of myself and my ticket, we are no longer in the race for the Executive Board for USG West," Cadwell said in an email. The executive board ticket for the West campus is still contested, with tickets headed by presidential candidates Stephanie Michelle Bockrath and Brandon Olson in the running. Tempe Senate candidate Daniel Martin, a current Tempe USG senator, also dropped out of his race to represent Barrett, the Honors College, according to assistant elections commissioner Erica Carr. Tempe Police reported the following incidents Sunday:A 30-year-old El Mirage woman was arrested Feb. 12 on the 1400 block of North Scottsdale Road on suspicion of possessing dangerous drugs, marijuana and drug paraphernalia and failing to return a rental vehicle, according to the police report. Officers contacted the woman after her rented vehicle from Avis Rental Car was reported stolen by employees, officers reported. Officers found a clear baggie containing a crystal substance, two small clear baggies with a green leafy substance, two glass pipes and a straw in a black bag, according to the police report. Officers also found a large glass pipe in a separate cardboard box, police reported. The woman was transported to Tempe City Jail, where she was booked and released pending charges, according to the report. A 48-year-old Phoenix man was arrested Feb. 11 on the 8000 block of West College Avenue on suspicion of third-degree burglary, according to a police report. Officers first contacted the man in response to a burglary investigation, police reported. Officers showed the man video surveillance photos of the incident, where he identified himself in the photos, according to the report. Items stolen during the burglary, which occurred Nov. 4 at the 400 block of South 48th Street, included “several tools and electronic items valued at $3,000,” according to the report. The incident was captured on surveillance cameras, which were used to help identify the man and his vehicle, police reported. When questioned about the incident, the man told officers he was high at the time of the incident and “could not remember taking anything from the vehicle,” according to the report. A 29-year-old Mesa man was arrested Feb. 11 at the 2000 block of East Rio Salado Parkway on suspicion of a having an outstanding warrant, according to the police report. When police approached the vehicle, they found the man asleep in the driver’s seat with two uncapped syringes next to him, according to the report. Officers conducted a records check on the man, which revealed an outstanding warrant, officers reported. Officers performed a search of his vehicle, police reported. Officers found two baggies containing a black tar substance, a case with several pills, two scales, a spoon and several more syringes, according to the report. Officers observed dried blood and a visible injection site on the man’s right arm, officers reported. The man admitted to officers he had just purchased and injected the heroin, according to the report. The man was transported to Tempe City Jail, where he was booked and held on his outstanding warrant, according to the police report. A 39-year-old Tempe man was arrested Feb. 10 at West Pebble Beach Drive and South Wilson Street on suspicion of possession of stolen property and possession of dangerous drugs, according to the police report. Officers first contacted the man during a traffic stop, police reported. During an investigation, police uncovered several stolen items in the man’s possession: an iPhone 5S, a Chase bank card and an Arizona driver’s license, officers reported. The man stated he found the property earlier in the day, according to the report. The items found in the man’s possession were reported stolen from a vehicle earlier that day, officers reported. Officers found the man was driving on a suspended license, according to the report. When officers searched his vehicle, they found a clear plastic wrapper containing meth, officers reported. When officers asked the man if the meth was his, he said, “I guess so,” according to the report. With ASU Student Government elections right around the corner, many students do not know how to apply or what positions are available. Elections, which take place at the end of March, will give any student at ASU, undergraduate or graduate, the ability to make a difference in their school.
Tempe Police reported the following incidents Wednesday: A 38-year-old Scottsdale man was arrested Feb. 10 at North Scottsdale Road and East Enterprise Drive on suspicion of possession of narcotics, possession of drug paraphernalia and having an outstanding warrant, according to the police report. Officers approached the man during a traffic stop in which he was a passenger in the front seat, officers reported. Police conducted a records check, which revealed his outstanding warrant, according to the report. Officers placed the man under arrest and searched him, according to the report. Officers found several used syringes and a spoon with burnt residue, police reported. The man was transported to Tempe City Jail, where officers conducted a strip search, according to the report. During the search, the man grabbed a black tar substance wrapped in plastic from under his penis and attempted to swallow it, officers reported. Officers grabbed the man to stop him from swallowing the substance, according to police. The man was booked into Tempe City Jail and held to see a judge, according to the report. Tempe Police reported the following incidents Monday: A 35-year-old Tempe man was arrested Feb. 9 at Loop 202 and North Priest Drive on suspicion of resisting arrest, criminal trespassing and failure to provide ID, according to the police report. Officers contacted the man while he was holding a sign at the off-ramp of the 202 on Priest Drive, police reported. When officers attempted to approach the man using emergency lights, he attempted to flee on his bicycle, according to the report. Officers reached the man and asked for identification, which the man refused to give because it was an “unlawful arrest,” police reported. Police then tried to detain the man by grabbing his right arm several times and the man refused, officers reported. The man then attempted to run away and flee, according to the report. Officers performed a leg sweep to get the man to the ground and placed him under arrest, officers reported. The man was transported to Tempe City Jail, where he was booked and held to see a judge, according to the police report. A 27-year-old Phoenix woman was arrested Feb. 9 at the 1200 block of North Scottsdale Road on suspicion of shoplifting, according to the police report. Officers contacted the woman in response to a shoplifting call from a Tempe Goodwill, police reported. Officers detained the woman outside the store and found approximately $105 worth of merchandise, according to the report. The woman also had “usable amounts” of marijuana and heroin, officers reported. Police ran a records check on the woman and uncovered two outstanding warrants for shoplifting and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to the report. The woman was transported to Tempe City Jail, where she was booked and held on the shoplifting charge and released pending the felony charges for marijuana and heroin possession, according to the police report.
