Some of my most memorable and long lasting video game memories happen in singleplayer. Getting to the end level in a Mario game, destroying a Halo ring, overcoming bosses in Shadow of the Colossus and Dark Souls, being Batman, entering the city of Rapture in Bioshock… the list could go on and on. Multiplayer doesn’t deliver those moments.

Last years Assassin’s Creed: Revelations with its hook-blade and bombs never jelled well with me. But the next numbered game in the series, Assassin’s Creed III, did away with the series poster boy and has been in development since Assassin’s Creed II. Did the extra time make for a better game, or is this just as played out as the others?

Even thought this is a strictly-based Arizona State University publication, I think everyone should check out Ohio State University’s half-time show.

Back in the day, I wrote about video game films and games converted into movies. With a few sparing exceptions to the rule, video game movies have received poor critical and fan reaction.

If you’re like me, you like to have your investment repaid in some way, shape or form. In the case of Mass Effect 3, it chose to end in the most 180 degree way possible. I was angry and upset; you know what I did? I went to my friends who had played the game and discussed in a civil manner why the ending to Mass Effect 3 was disappointing. We conversed about how space magic and different colors in an ending leaves the player wanting something more.

Video games that approach closer and closer to that bar we know as realism look astounding.

I hate being a Mac Gamer. I truly despise only having a Mac and being a gamer. If you’re asking yourself, “Should I get a Macbook Pro or an iMac for the specific purpose of gaming,” I am telling you right now that no good can come of it.

It’s a lengthy and arduous journey to go from concept to finished product in the video game industry.

You hear this line quite a few times at preview events from developers creating a multiplayer mode: “We really want to stress teamwork/player cooperation in our game.”

I never really liked the first Borderlands game (2009). I thought the idea of a First Person Shooter loot game set in a wasteland was just tired ground when compared to Fallout 3 (2008). From the thirty minutes I played, it was nothing but flat, barren desert. Every which way I looked was just dirt and rocks which gets really boring after a while. Critics and gamers loved Borderlands 1, but I just could not get into it.

"Splinter Cell: Blacklist" returns the renowned Splinter Cell franchise into the limelight as Sam Fisher hunts those who are hunting people that are on the blacklist. The game features all of the gadgets and tools used in previous Splinter Cell games but keeps the fast and intense gameplay of the fifth game, Splinter Cell: Conviction. The only caveat is an important piece of the character; Sam Fisher is missing.

Vague as the title is, it has a certain weight on this topic. In my first semester doing these 300-500 word pieces, I discussed unnecessary multiplayer modes in singleplayer game franchises such as Ninja Gaiden, Bioshock, Resident Evil, etc.

E3 2012 officially wrapped up June 7. I have only started to regain feeling in my toes and heels because of the amount of standing and walking I did throughout the three day gaming convention. As far as new video game announcements go, I was impressed by Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs, which will be released next year on current generation platforms, and Quantic Dream’s Beyond: Two Souls with the photorealistic Ellen Page.
