Classic movies through a modern lens a 'fool's game'

In recent months there has been a fervent and passionate crusade against one of Hollywood’s all-time classics, "Gone With The Wind," by contemporary critics for the film’s blatant romanticism of “the South’s lost cause” and the institution of slavery itself.  While the 1939 Oscar winner has always carried the distinction of being one of the most controversial classical Hollywood movies when analyzing it through the current Post-1964 New Left lens, the recent debate over the connotation and meaning of the confederate flag has lead to some modern critics to even call for an outright ban of the movie and its disappearance from popular and mainstream culture.

Footing the bill while wearing a skirt means society's evolved

This past weekend, my boyfriend and I took a trip to California. We ate out multiple times at various restaurants in the Los Angeles area and I began to notice that bill was always handed to him at the end of the meal. While it was a slight gesture from the server, it began to irritate me more and more throughout the weekend. We tend to alternate between paying for meals and, as far as I am concerned, that is not an uncommon thing anymore.
