The State Press

In the Huddle: The Trojan War

Talk about total domination. The ASU Sun Devils (4-4, 2-3 in Pac-10) walloped the Washington State Cougars (1-8, 0-6 in Pac-10) 42-0 in ASU’s Homecoming game last Saturday.

Geekin’ It: (Legal) Internet TV

TV and I have always had a love hate relationship. Sure I love South Park and The Daily Show, but it somehow always get scheduled at the exact wrong time.

Fake it 'Til You Make it: Judging the Air Sex World Championship

On the Road: Pinnacle Peak Park

It’s a short trip down the road this week to Pinnacle Peak Park in north Scottsdale, 27 miles north of Tempe campus. The Pinnacle Peak area is without a doubt one of the more scenic areas of the Phoenix metro area.

Eat, Drink in Arcadia

Nestled between Phoenix and Scottsdale, the Arcadia neighborhood screams "California" and is home to a slew of delicious and hip restaurants. SPM presents the best (and worst) of Arcadia's eateries, with a splash of Biltmore Fashion Park and just one disappointing burger joint.

Jon Stewart's Rally Reaches Tempe

At first light, the Rally to Restore Sanity is ambiguous at best. It’s a rally about nothing and everything all at once, thrown by the "Daily Show," Comedy Central's political-farce powerhouse. But instead of scrambling to purchase a flight to D.C. this Saturday, head over to Hayden Lawn at the Tempe campus to celebrate this exercise in free speech.

Dawn of the (Extra) Dead

SPM writer Anthony Sandoval became a zombie for a day while playing an extra in a horror flick. Get spooked as you read about his transformation from the living to the living dead, all for eight seconds of screen time.

Downtown Dispatch: Butter Toast Boutique

Has anyone else noticed the major vintage trend going around this fall? Well, if you have noticed and have been wondering where you can pick up some of the best vintage in town, my suggestion would be to head to Butter Toast Boutique in downtown Phoenix. Butter Toast is a sweet vintage shop located off Sixth and Roosevelt streets that offers vintage clothing for women and men, as well as vintage and handmade accessories, and also the occasional houseware. On a visit to Butter Toast Boutique, I spotted some beautiful vintage dresses, great vintage men's shirts, and some cute vintage picture frames (perfect for a picture of your sweetie). Butter Toast not only houses an amazing collection, but also offers friendly service (the ladies that own and work at this shop are seriously the sweetest) and great prices that won't break the bank.

Charts: the universal language.

Geekin' It: Language 101

Language 101 classes are truly the devil. First, a TA who is fresh out of their undergrad classes and usually has no teaching skills whatsoever is at the front of the class.

Blood Thirsty: Ring in Halloween With Haunting Ballet

There’s something about humans being held against their will, bitten by Gothic fanged seductresses and sullen-eyed vampires, that’s oddly arousing. Lisa Starry’s "A Vampire Tale," now in its seventh year of production, tapped into the bewitching powers of vampires before baby Twihards could even spell Edward Cullen.

On the Road: Fall Colors

It seems most out-of-state students, and even a few natives, don’t think we have changing seasons here in Arizona.

Biking for Barrios

Flat tires and loose chains bring kids from all over the downtown Phoenix area into Barrio Works bike shop. The desire to earn a bike for free keeps them coming back.
