Springing into Fashion

Spring is fresh in the air but it’s not the pollen that’s making me twitch.  The newly found itch to make some wardrobe adjustments is right around the corner.  I’m sick of winter clothes and just so happen to love spring fashion.  Every year it revolves around the same idea of fresh, light, and delightful themes, yet fashion never fails to alter slightly.  Here is a fashion forecast for spring 2012:

Shapes

Peplums: Last year I mentioned peplums in a blog when they hit hard last fall.  Well, they’re returning this spring, but instead of topping warm trousers, peplums are transforming winter jackets to tailored spring crop tops. Found in spring cocktail dresses and skirts, peplums are a perfect feminine, flattering touch.

Sporty: Another reoccurring trend this spring is sport-inspired pieces found in jackets and shirts.  The clean lines of sportswear is refreshing and fitting for the season.  Perhaps it’s a ripple effect of the varsity-jacket trend last fall.

Roaring ‘20s: In case you didn’t love the magic of the twenties enough, flapper-girl dresses are coming back around this spring.  The shapeless, easy-going flow of these dresses makes a perfect go-to spring outfit.  Gatsby would be so proud.

Colors

Pastels: Appearing in nail polishes and in every garment imaginable, light, airy pastels are sweeping spring 2012.  Pastels make a great trend since they are easy to find and pretty on everyone.

Oranges & Tangerines: These reoccurring color palates are a little more challenging to the average shopper.  Oranges can be harsh and can clash easily with rosy skin tones, but luckily they come in so many hues it can be a fun trend.

Prints

Color Blocking and Geometric: Take a lesson in geometry this spring with some serious blocks of color. These bold prints are appearing everywhere from swimwear to maxi dresses.  I think it’s bold (but nothing challenging) and a great trend to try.

Nature- and African-Influenced: Prints this spring are varying from birds to flowers to tribal patterns.  Free and flowing, these prints are interesting enough to liven up any outfit and bring out a wild side.
