Defender Tosti scores a laser shot as ASU attains a 3-0 record

Morris needs one more shutout to tie the school record.

ASU Vs Portland St. Morris
Redshirt senior goalkeeper Chandler Morris throws the ball after a save in the second half against Portland State at Sun Devil Soccer Stadium Friday Aug. 21, 2015 in Tempe. The Sun Devils defeated the Vikings 3-0.

After dominating the entire first half, it seemed like only a matter of time before the ASU women's soccer team found the back of the net against Stephen F. Austin Friday night.

It took until the 51st minute but senior defender Sara Tosti broke a scoreless tie to put the Sun Devils ahead 1-0. Just over ten minutes later, sophomore forward Aly Moon scored to double the ASU lead.

The Sun Devils held  14-1 shot differential in the first half and redshirt junior Lucy Lara said that had a lot to due with the team's communication.

"The first half was a great half because we set the tone," Lara said. "Our teams communication really helped me keep it up and helped our offense generate opportunities."

Through their first three games the Sun Devils have yet to allow a goal to their opponents but in the 47th moment there was a scary moment when the Ladyjack's created a 2-on-1 scoring opportunity that resulted in a shot that went wide of the goal. It was one of only three shots on goal for the Ladyjacks.

Redshirt senior goalkeeper Chandler Morris picked up her 22nd career shutout and now needs one more to tie for ASU's all-time career shutout record.

Head coach Kevin Boyd gave credit to his opponent's game plan to disrupt ASU's attack.

"We played well today, the ball just wasn't going in," Boyd said. "Give credit to the opponent, they employed a good gameplan against us because they had so many numbers back."

ASU women's soccer will head to Tucson and face Pepperdine on Friday Sept. 11th.
