Former ASU football player Mitchell Freedman has been charged with a number of criminal violations stemming from an incident that occurred in Tempe in May.

The recent kidnapping, burglary, armed robbery, sexual assault, sexual abuse and theft charges are the third set authorities have made against Freedman, who was nicknamed "Fright Night" when he played for ASU. All of the charges involve sexual assaults and robberies in which Freedman is suspected.

Authorities said Freedman and an unidentified suspect entered a woman's apartment, located in the 1200 block of East Lemon Street, at about 3:30 a.m. on May 14.

Once inside the apartment, Freedman and his alleged accomplice reportedly sexually assaulted the victim, robbed her and fled the scene, Tempe police Sgt. Dan Masters said.

Freedman was identified through surveillance photographs taken at two West Phoenix Circle K stores, where he reportedly attempted to use a credit card stolen from the victim.

Authorities also found the victim's jewelry, computer, camera and personal identification during a search of Freedman's residence, Masters said.

The circumstances surrounding the May 14 incident are similar to the Sept. 12 and Oct. 4 sexual assaults in which Freedman has also been charged.

Videotape from a Circle K Freedman reportedly visited following the Oct. 4 incident was used to link Freedman to the Sept. 12 assault. Items belonging to the victim of the Oct. 4 assault were found in Freedman's residence, said Phoenix Police detective Tony Morales.

Police are still seeking the second suspect they believe was involved in the May 14 incident. The suspect is described as a young, non-Caucasian male with short, dark hair and an accent. The victim described the suspect as thin and about 5 feet, 4 inches tall.

Freedman is being held in Madison Street Jail. He played as a free safety for ASU during the 1995 to 1998 seasons.
