Less than a week after vanquishing 15 other teams to win a tournament it had never placed better than 12th at, the ASU women's golf team was back on the course again and back atop the leaderboard of an even bigger competition.
The Sun Devils played Monday in the 18-team Arizona Wildcat Invitational at the par-71 Arizona National course in Tucson.
The teams were scheduled to play two full rounds, but every squad had multiple players remaining that needed to finish up holes on their second round when play was suspended due to darkness.
Round two will be finished tomorrow before the regularly scheduled tee times on the final day of the tournament.
ASU was 5-under par as a team Monday, with freshmen Jennifer Osborn and Azahara Munoz and junior Tiffany Tavee needing to finish two holes, senior Alissa Kuczka needing to finish one hole and junior Charmaine Erasmus finished.
The team finished at 2-over 286 in the first round before catching fire in the second, as the Sun Devils are currently 7-under par in their second round with the seven individual holes yet to complete.
With almost two rounds complete, ASU's 5-under par has itself in first place. UNLV is currently three strokes behind in second, and Duke shot 1-under par thus far to hold third place.
If the Sun Devils can maintain their advantage, it would mean their second tournament win in the last six days.
ASU captured the 16-team, three-day Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge Wednesday at the Palos Verdes Golf Club in Palos Verdes, Calif.
As she did in last week's tournament, Osborn once again led the Sun Devils in Tucson.
With two holes remaining, Osborn is 2-under par in her second round after finishing 3-under par in her first round of the day. The 5-under total is good enough to place her in second individually.
California's Sophia Sheridan leads the entire tournament, shooting a 7-under par with two holes remaining in her second round.
Munoz is currently in a four-way tie for fourth at 3-under with two holes left. Kuczka is in a five-way tie for 17th overall by shooting 1-over par with one hole remaining.
Tavee is 2-over par with one hole to go and in a nine-way tie for 22nd place.
