Junior Aaron Aguayo represents ASU along with other runners during the men's 1,500-meter race at the ASU Invitational at Sun Angel Stadium Saturday.

The ASU track team will play host to a number of athletes as they hold the 27th annual Sun Angel Track Classic this Saturday.

Along with the home meet, ASU will also send out representatives to Walnut, Calif., to compete in the Mt. San Antonio College Relays today and Friday as well as the Mesa Classic on Friday.

"We're going to find out a lot about ourselves this weekend," ASU coach Greg Kraft said.

So far, the Sun Devils have done much to prove themselves, especially on the women's side where they are currently ranked fifth in the nation according to trackwire.com.

"Latosha Wallace has been the leader of our sprint groups," Kraft said. "She's really had success and momentum from day one."

Along with Wallace, Jenna Kingma has also stepped up and been able to contribute for the ASU women all year.

"She's really been off the charts and so consistent with it," Kraft said.

The men must look more to establish themselves as contenders with strong performances throughout.

"Our guys were not nearly as deep, so we're looking for some kind of balance and consistency," Kraft said.

Men that have begun to make names for themselves are Kelvin Love Jr., Domenik Peterson and Joshua Kinnaman. However, they will need to be more consistent in order for the men's team to become contenders.

One Sun Devil that has stayed consistent is Aaron Aguayo, who currently reigns as two-time Pac-10 champion in the steeplechase.

"[The men] have the pieces there, we just don't have as many as on the women's side," Kraft said. "I think that's really reflective to a certain degree that the women have 18 scholarships and the men have 12."

This weekend ASU will also get a look at the competition from around the country as teams from Auburn, UCLA and UA, among others, make the trip to Tempe.

Along with other colleges, a group of high school athletes will also participate in the classic, giving ASU a look at future stars.

"It's going to be a neat meet. In the past there have been kids in this meet that you've been, 'Oh, he's good,'" Kraft said.

Along with future stars, one past star will participate. Former Sun Devil and 2004 Olympic Gold Medalist Dwight Phillips is scheduled to compete in the 100-meter dash and his medal-winning event, the long jump.
