Margaritas, Manicures, and Massages Oh My!

Dos Gringos is a bar known to give a little drink therapy to its customers every once in a while. Now, every Thursday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. is Therapeutic Thursdays, where customers can get another form of therapy in margaritas, massages and manicures.

Dos Gringos isn’t the only place to add a little therapy to the menu. General manager Mike Smith of Dos Gringos says “manicures and martinis had been done before at other venues but never margaritas.

We also added the massage in as a bonus.”

Dos had a good reason for starting Therapeutic Thursdays. “There’s not a lot in the Chandler area for women to do. We wanted to increase business as well as give women some pampering before their weekend hit,” Smith says.

Erika Eder, a Chandler resident, was a first-timer to Therapeutic Thursdays and says “one of my friends e-mailed me saying we should do it.” She went for the manicure and was happy with her hot-pink nails.

Therapeutic Thursdays is a good way to start unwinding for the upcoming weekend. The manicure and massage only cost an extra $5.00 and are added to customers’ drink bills. Dos Gringos offers six different specialty margaritas to choose from, one being The Walk of Shame. This shameful margarita includes Jose Cuervo Orange tequila, 7-Up and orange juice topped off with grenadine.

Once the margarita and manicure or massage have been ordered, customers can sit back, enjoy their drink and chat with friends. The manicurists and massage therapists will call the customers back when they are ready to take care of them.

If a customer is flying solo that night, there is no need to worry about losing a spot at the bar while being groomed — bartenders employ signs reading “Be Right Back! I’m Getting Pampered” to protect seats.

If the guys don’t want to be dragged to a spa session with the girls, let them know they can watch the latest football game on the TV. As an added male enticement, in a couple weeks Dos Gringos will be adding a guys specialty menu with beer and Jack and Cokes on Thursdays.

Some customers might worry about the sanitary issues involved with manicures and massages being performed in a restaurant/bar setting, but Smith says “all the manicurists and massage therapists are certified and bring in their own sanitary needs.” Alcohol is used consistently during the manicures and the massage tables are wiped down and re-layered with new paper towels after each customer.

The Chandler Dos Gringos is currently the only Dos location offering Therapeutic Thursdays, but it’s worth the drive for a little pampering to get the weekend started early. Now if only there was a fun place for liver therapy...
