The place to be for spring break is right here in Tempe.
Aside from the beautiful sunny skies we’ve been waiting for and spring training games all week, there is another incentive for stay-cationers to stick around the Valley: the folks over at Zia Records have set up a screening of The White Stripes’ brand new documentary and live album “Under Great White Northern Lights.”
The screening will be a one-night only event at Madcap Theaters on Mill Avenue on Thursday, March 18 at 8:30 p.m. and will be a night dedicated to all things White Stripes, said Mary Papenhausen of Zia Records.
“It’s a really amazing release and it marks the 10th anniversary of the White Stripes, who are so unique and amazing,” said Papenhausen. “We are such big White Stripes supporters here and the way it was filmed really deserves for it to be on the big screen.”
Madcap was an obvious choice for the venue, Papenhausen said. The nonprofit organization has been rejuvenating the Mill Avenue District with its constant stream of screenings, concerts and showcases, and it maintains a strong indie presence in Tempe.
“[Madcap] does a lot for the community, and especially the entertainment community,” said Papenhausen.
Entrance to the screening is contingent upon purchase of any form of the “Under Great White Northern Lights,” release from any Valley Zia locations. The project will be released across a wide array of formats, including CD, DVD, Blu-Ray, vinyl and as a box set.
Any purchase will get you in the door. Tickets will not be sold the night of.
The event won’t just be about the movie. There will also be plenty of chances to win White Stripes merchandise of all sorts — just be sure to brush up on your White Stripes facts.
“There will be some giveaways, freebies and contests all evening but only after we test their White Stripes and Jack White knowledge,” said Papenhausen.
