Controversial demonstration
(In response to Joseph Schmidt’s April 7 article, “Replica wall on Tempe campus illustrates turmoil in West Bank.”)
By the clever bias of linguistic and photographic detail, Jospeh Schmidt’s article inaccurately depicted the demonstration held yesterday on Hayden Lawn.
The title suggests the event was about a “replica wall” when in fact this construction was merely a stage prop used to make it possible for the Palestinian student group to slander the men and women of the Israeli army. The central focus of the demonstration was not the wall but rather the students’ acting out a horrifying display of gross aggression and violence.
The photograph accurately depicts the nature of this behavior, but conveniently fails to identify the blatant and defamatory nature with which these students prominently wore the Star of David on their backs. This should insult not only every Jewish student at ASU, but also every member of our community who believes in freedom. Indeed, the pursuit of free speech is a worthy cause, but without discipline, freedom is nothing more than unrestrained anarchy.
Unfortunately, discipline was nowhere to be found either at the demonstration on Hayden Lawn or in your reporting on this public display of shameless hatred. Let us all seek the truth and find peace.
