Athenian Express is that hidden gem of a restaurant that you've been looking for.
Located only a few blocks from the ASU Downtown campus on Central Avenue, Athenian Express appears to be a teeny, tiny restaurant. However, once you venture inside the tiny entrance, the room opens up into a large restaurant that offers inexpensive greek food to people on the go.
The first time I went into Athenian I was a little unsure. (I'm unsure of a lot restaurants — it's the picky food person I am at heart showing through.) However, I was pleasantly surprised by the size of the restaurant, the great deals, the student discount (aka free soft drink) and the tasty food.
That day the place was busy, but the line went by fast. In no time I was seated, eating my food and enjoying a nice Arnold Palmer (fresh brewed tea, and lemonade included in free drink deal).
Since my first time in I've noticed that the crowd is usually made up of police men and women, and also business men and women. However, I have spotted a few students, and have continued to wonder why more students don't come. Well, I'm here to tell you that their food is inexpensive, filling and extra tasty. So if you haven't checked out Athenian Express yet, I highly suggest going there during your lunch break from class, or for an afternoon lunch date.
Athenian Express is located at 814 N. Central Ave., and is open 7:30 a.m. (did I mention they also serve breakfast and the menu items sound amazing?) to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays.
