Whether you have that special someone or you consider Valentine’s Day to be just another day of the week, you cannot deny that something is in the air...and in our case, it’s these hearts! I happened to stumble across this idea, originally done by Martha Stewart not too long ago and decided to try it out. This craft is the perfect addition to any room in your house (apartment, dorm, etc.) that is flooded with too much light because these hearts just soak up the sunlight and illuminate the whole room.
These translucent hearts are really simple to make. The only supplies you will need are wax paper, crayons, a handheld pencil sharpener, and an iron and ironing surface. Start with a fairly large piece of wax paper (Martha Stewart recommends a 12” x 16” piece) and fold it in half long ways. Pick out the crayons you want (think Valentine’s day colors for some spirit, or just do whatever suits your room) and use the handheld pencil sharpener to create crayon shavings. Unfold your wax paper and deposit the shavings evenly in the wax paper. Fold the wax paper back over and fold it along the already-made crease. Before ironing, make sure you protect your soon-to-be creation with kraft paper, or just use two sheets of wax paper (one on top and one on the bottom). Iron your design lightly on medium heat. Once all the crayon shavings have melted, let it cool. Once cool, you can begin to cut out your hearts!

Now you can string each heart with a thread. How and where you hang it is essentially up to you, but if it’s in the light it makes for a perfect window decoration. When I made mine, I used a piece of circular wood that I tied all my hearts to and it’s now dangling in my bedroom!
Also, keep in mind, this isn’t strictly a Valentine’s Day decoration. You could cut out any shapes with your translucent wax paper and make an awesome design for your window!
Make something awesome you want to show me? Let me know! I may feature it in an upcoming post. Happy crafting!
