“I see it. I like it. I make it.”
This is Erica Domesek’s motto, the founder, creator, and author of "P.S. I Made This..." She’s been a distinguished member of New York’s DIY scene for quite some time, creating all sorts of crafts and do-it-yourself fashion designs, as well as updating her blog. This past fall, Domesek published her first book with the same title as her blog, "P.S. I Made This..." This book features more than 25 DIY projects inspired by current fashion as seen on the runway, icons, and celebrities.
Although the projects mirror the complex and sometimes “out there” fashion of today, the projects themselves are all very easy to create and affordable as well. The projects in this book tend to utilize reusable materials or the materials are just easy to find (at local stores or even around the house). These user-friendly designs range from necklaces to fur vests to embellished heels. Each project has easy to follow, step-by-step instructions that allow you, the crafter, to make something absolutely extraordinary.
Domesek begins her book with a picturesque list of all the main materials and tools she uses in her projects. This is very useful for those of us who want to try out various crafts, but have no idea what tools to use or even how to use them.
You may be asking, what are some of my favorite crafts this book has to offer? The cork earrings are definitely innovative and make you look like an instant fashionista. The tropical headband is also quite unique and fun as it is made with those tiny tropical umbrellas found in drinks! Another one of my favorites is the lucite necklace that is crafted from triangle rulers and a rocker chain.
