Palm Walk Runway: Conscious Trend

In honor of this year’s Earth Day, I decided to write both blogs on a recent, yet inspiring, trend that is spreading everywhere. I like to call this trend simply as the eco-friendly fashion.

Now, when I used to think of recyclable clothing, the image of burlap sack material and recycled bangles would come to mind.

However, as I was recently shopping at H&M, I discovered an entire collection of eco-friendly clothing. And without the specific tag describing the recycled material used for the garment, I would have thought no different.

After seeing that a trendsetter, like H&M, offered eco-friendly clothing, I decided to explore what other designers are also going full force with the green trend.

Sure enough, it seemed as if everyone else had caught onto the trend, and they were not just producing earth-friendly clothing. There are even green accessories including, purses, stylish shoes, rings, and diamond watches.

Some of the material, like the clothing from H&M, is made from recycled polyester, or organic cotton, and some jeans are dyed in an energy efficient way giving it that eco-friendly title.

As far as rings, I found a ring from the Alex & Ani jewelry line. The ring’s gold plating is made from recycled metal from local mills. This ring goes perfectly with any look, and it will give you that guilt-free feeling.

For a watch, I found a Sprout watch that is constructed out of corn resin, that is 99 percent biodegradable. The watch also has a mother-of-pearl dial and a diamond detailing on the face. This watch also comes in many other bright and spring like colors.

A girl can definitely not live without her shoes and what better way to wear them than in an eco-friendly way? Olsenhaus makes heels from recycled faux suede and mesh, and they are surprisingly very fashionable.

Finally, on my list for fashion-forward green trends is the Matt & Nat Hendrix purse. Now, usually eco-friendly purses tend to be betrayed as dull, hemp bags. However, this stylish purse puts all of those thoughts at rest. The purse label is made from cork and the inside lining is made from recycled water bottles.

Before you assume that earth-friendly clothing is only for hippies and is nowhere near fashionable, think again. Some of the top designers are following this trend, and making it more fashionable and wearable than ever.

So celebrate your earth, and express your love for fashion at the same time.
