Palm Walk Runway: The Braids Are Back

I used to think that if someone braided their hair on top of their head or in a circular way, that they either looked like Princess Leia or a little Dutch girl.

However, now with intricate braid buns and braids on top of the head showing up on runways and in the fashion world, I am beginning to have a different outlook on the style.

The polished, yet bold look started with the slicked back, simple ponytail, and then the slicked back ballerina bun. Now, the polish look is the crazy, intricate braids.

What I also love about this look is, it is similar to the messy bun style. Yes, there is a trick to mastering the perfect look down, however, the more relaxed and casual the braid—or bun—the more effortless the outcome looks.

I have yet to try some of the different braid styles, however I am sure with some practice, some bobby pins, and a ton of hairspray, I should be good to go.

I would recommend starting with the types of braids that you know how to do. Whether it is the simple three-strand braid, or the more challenging French braid, or fishtail braids, start with your most perfected.

I would then recommend, just playing around with different ways to pin and intertwine different braids together. The more original and creative you get, the more intricate, and crazy your final hair looks.

Even just by looking at pictures you can get ideas of how the hair should look or lay in certain places. The great thing about doing fun things to your hair is if you mess up you can just take it all out and redo it again.
