Bravo to coming to an agreement on the debt ceiling between the Republican and Democratic parties. The plan still has to go through the House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate but it could raise the debt ceiling by $2.4 trillion while cutting nearly $900 billion in spending over 10 years. It was long-awaited, and time for a compromise.

Boo to the bickering and backdoor insults that lead the agreement on the debt ceiling. The American people watched as ridiculous comments spewed from the politicians’ mouths about the debate, turning the event into a charade. It made it difficult to have faith in a government when it proceeded to act like teenage girls with a burn book.

Bravo to the Arizona Rattlers for their first round playoff victory over the defending Arena Bowl Champion Spokane Shock. It was a dominated 62-33 victory for the 17-2 Rattlers, and revenge against a team that knocked them out of the playoffs last season. Deep playoff runs and dominant teams can be rare in the Valley, so this team is quite refreshing. The Rattlers have won 10 straight games and will face Chicago for a right to play in the 2011 Arena Bowl, which would be hosted at US Airways Center.

Boo to tuition increases and the toll they take on a student’s back account. Costs are starting to hit home for many students and they return to campus and it is starting to look like this might be a poor semester. Tuition is now $3,000 more than it was three years ago, but many scholarships haven’t increased as much. It’s difficult for a student to understand the increases when very little has changed in their college experience.
