Broke's the New Black: Fall Trend Forecast

It’s official. Pumpkin Spice Lattes are back at Starbucks and I can hardly control my excitement to put my t-strap sandals away for good in replacement of my utilitarian boots. But while we wait for the Arizona heat to finally drop off, we have much to sit and fantasize about for fall. This winter’s trend reports are booming with bold colors (check out last Thursday’s blog for a breakdown) and even menswear. Luckily for us college kids, many of the looks can be recycled from items you probably already own.

Printed scarves and colored belts and purses made the cut as well as prep-school inspired mini skirts. Other fashion forecasts broadcasted menswear on the runways like blazers and button downs garnished with girlie accents or plaid prints. Layering flannel with a solid jacket is an easy, comfy outfit or try a pleated skirt with tucked in button down. The mixing and matching is endless!  For a further look at some of fall’s must have items (or a $298 baseball varsity jacket!), check out Refinery29’s 30 Amazing Fall Essentials.

New trends to possibly try this season include baseball or varsity jackets, leather skirts, unconventional pearls, and floor length maxi skirts. Camel colored blazers are also in, so try a fun color underneath like marigold or fuchsia.

For guys, WhoWhatWear highlighted some of Hollywood’s best dressed guys in a recent blog post. Any man dressed up in a crisp suit jacket or with rolled sleeves automatically gets an A in my book. But for everyday wear, jeans and flannel or a well-fitted vintage tee does the trick for fall. Just try to stay out of basketball shorts…at least one day a week.
