As a broke college student, I have attempted countless DIY projects, successful and not, in the never-ending struggle to save money. One of the simplest cutbacks for a girl pinching pennies is a manicure; a ritual that takes an hour, costs about $20, and only lasts a few days. So in an effort to keep that part of my budget in check, I have mastered the at-home manicure (and the art of multitasking while waiting for nails to dry).
The problem with doing your own nails is the limitation of nail designs you’re faced with. Suddenly a classic French manicure seems like an impossible feat so I’m plagued with solids- the way we’ve painted our nails since we started grade school.
Lucky me, while stumbling across one of my latest obsessions Pinterest, I also found my other newest obsession: Newspaper nails. Not only are they unique, but in my experience, have caused spectators to stop me in my tracks to get a closer look on a continual basis. Even better: they’re easy as ever to do.
All you need is a light color polish (pinks, grays, or white work best), a newspaper and rubbing alcohol.
This video explains perfectly how to achieve the coolest thing to come to nails since acrylics.
In spirit of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week which was held last week, new nail trends were also part of the excitement. Nudes, coral reds, and tuxedo nails (!) were buzzing down runways along with checkered and hombre shades. Check out all of these at Refinery29’s 13 Of The Coolest Nail Trends From Fashion Week.
