This past Friday, I attended an event at The Foundry in downtown Phoenix on 1st Street called RAW. As my friend Mary explained in her all-encompassing post, RAW is an independent organization that showcases various artists from all creative fields. This specific event was nothing short of creativity;I had the privilege of hearing amazing bands, sifting through the displays of truly great art, watching tribal dances, and experiencing a fashion show, all while in cocktail attire. I can honestly say this event was everything I hoped it to be and more.

As expected, I found the artists at RAW to be the most intriguing. In particular, I really enjoyed the stylings of Skky Brown and Missconstrued. His designs were some of those featured in the night’s fashion show, put on by Missconstrued Boutique. For the majority of the night, he was sitting at the boutique’s table, talking to as many people as possible to get the word out about his designs. While perusing his art, Skky pointed out which items were the ones that he designed.  My favorites of his were the items he made with legos, like bracelets and hair pieces and also the necklaces he crafted using a metal coils and other materials. My favorite part about these necklaces is how he took phrases from newspapers and carefully painted them onto certain parts of the necklace, giving it an extra hidden meaning. Skky also makes things like duct tape ties and designs trucker hats.

Although Skky Brown and Missconstrued Boutique had my favorite pieces of art in a crafty sense, I think it is necessary that I mention one other local artist by the name of Joshua Murphy. His artwork was just absolutely beautiful. Featured at RAW were mainly his paintings, but he also does photography, and by day he is the owner of element3media. My favorite paintings were a series of paintings in which he depicts each stop on the Phoenix Metro Lightrail.

I’m positive that the next time RAW puts on an event, I will be there. Hopefully you will too! But if my post didn’t convince you, be ready for Amanda’s Broke Is the New Black post concerning RAW’s fashion on Thursday! If you would like any information on any of the other artists featured at RAW, check out their website.
