I am absolutely, unequivocally in love with “The New Girl.” Zooey Deschanel should definitely be considered as great a comic performer as the best of them. Her performance in the pilot episode is as quirky as her character in “Yes Man,” but funnier. When she starts singing to herself, I think I lose it every time (mostly because it reminds me of my nerdy group of friends). However, I think what I appreciate the most about this show is that the gender roles are reversed. Deschanel is portrayed as this nerdy girl who quotes lord of the rings, whereas the guys are typical “bros” that are living the bachelor life. Although minor characters, the three guys she moves in with are equally hilarious—playing the “annoyed” roommates that just can’t help but welcome her into their family.
I’m not too sure about how long the offer will last, but ITunes is offering the pilot episode as a free download. However, if that doesn’t work, I believe IMDB has the full episode available as well. Since it’s such an accessible episode, I look forward to any emails I receive regarding your reactions. I say that this show is definitely a front-runner with my comedy TV show line-up, but what do you guys think?
