One of the main goals behind Phoenix Fashion Week is to help launch new emerging designers into the industry. The members select various applicants, then help them devise their business plans, budgets, look books, websites, and social media platforms before their runway debut at Phoenix Fashion Week in the fall.
Emerging designer Silvia Bours, showcased Saturday night, had everyone on their feet cheering when her last look left the catwalk. Her collection was jaw dropping, and not just because all of the models wore pink wigs!
Each dress is its own piece of art. Between the embroidery, appliquéd rhinestones, gems, and pearls, and even hand painting, Bours ensures every single dress is unique.
Bours was born in Mexico and later moved to France where she was influenced by French fashion. This passion led her to major in fashion design in college and to create collections for multiple runway shows prior to this year’s Phoenix Fashion Week.
On Bour’s website, she describes her clothes as feminine, but theatrical and sweet at the same time.
As costume-like as the looks may have been, I will definitely be keeping Silvia Bours on my radar for the future of fashion. (Or keeping her in mind for my dream wedding dress!)
