ESPN gets on my nerves.
Or at least its producers do.
Every night I flip on SportsCenter as I get ready for bed. Not because there’s something specific I want to see; it’s just habit.
And by my most recent, and also imaginary, calculations, the amount of programming on the show I actually care about is around 15 percent.
Everything else is nonsensical and consistently rehashed rhetoric.
So that got me thinking. Why not make a list of the things ESPN determined were the most important topics in the sports world this week?
1. NBA labor negotiations: talk to me in January, it’s football season.
2. NFL handshakes: I never seen so much airtime for hands outside a jewelry infomercial.
3. Notre Dame playing at night: The Irish aren’t nationally relevant anymore. Stop pretending they are when there are much more important games on the weekend slate.
4. Tim Tebow: This won’t even be his first career start. And it’s a matchup of two awful teams.
5. Andrew Luck … just kidding, my man crush on him is unwavering.
Finally, just think about this, if a viewer missed Sunday’s telecast, by the time Monday rolled around they would’ve known about everything I just listed before they found out about the tragic death of Dan Wheldon.
Now that’s just wrong.
