Spark'd TV: All Day, All Night

I’ll have to admit, the only reason I gave “Up All Night” a chance was for Maya Rudolph and Will Arnett. And rightly so. Maya is amazing as the sometimes self-centered and aloof Ava, and Arnett is even better as Christina Applegate’s quirky husband Chris. I usually don’t go for shows based around the process of raising a child, and it’s not exactly a typical show for the ASU demographic, but Up All Night doesn’t disappoint. I’ll give you three reasons why you should watch this show, or at least the pilot.

One: Even though Applegate and Arnett play parents on the show, they are new to parenthood, and still like to have a good time. In the second episode, Arnett is forced to call the cops on his neighbors, but tries to play it cool when they make a visit. Watch this clip and you’ll understand how awkwardly funny his character is in the series.

Two: Up All Night is produced by Lorne Michaels (a.k.a. my personal hero of television), which means that we should expect not only great humor, but also cameos from big names. For example, in episode three, Jorma Taccone (member of the Lonely Island) makes a cameo as Rudolph’s ex boyfriend from the 90’s. I’ll leave you with this clip, which is reminiscent of a digital short from SNL.

Three: The show is genuinely funny. Need another example? Give it a try.
