If you haven’t been keeping up with The Office since Steve Carrell left, you’re surely missing out. The eighth season has proved itself as funny as its predecessors thanks to the awkward personality of Andy, coupled with the sarcastic attitude of Jim and Pam.
One thing I’m still uncertain about is the character of Robert California. Since his arrival, his character has seemed like just a fill-in for the plot line. In the latest episode, however, his role was absolutely amazing. If you haven’t seen it, go watch it, and then continue reading. Throughout the day in the office party, Robert was walking around asking what everyone’s worst fears were. I just assumed it was nothing, but at the end of the episode, he created a montage of all of the fears of the employees and told a story that involved every fear. Surprisingly, at the end of all of this, he leaves the audience with this inspiring quote, “Fear plays an interesting role in our lives. How dare we let it motivate us? How dare we let it into our decision making, into our livelihoods, into our relationships? It’s funny, isn’t it—we take a day a year to dress up in costume and celebrate fear.” I definitely wasn’t expecting to be given actual wisdom at the end of their Halloween episode, but here I am, finding myself agreeing with Robert California.
On the other hand, my favorite storyline that has proceeded through the season has been the baby-tension between Angela and Pam. Whenever Angela makes a snide comment about how fat Pam is, I die a little inside…of laughter. The most hilarious news, though, is that Pam and Angela realized they chose the same name for their children. In the Garden Party episode, Pam told Angela that she was naming her son Philip after her grandfather, and naturally, Angela said she was naming her son after one of her cats.
And am I alone in saying this? Andy and Erin are perfect for each other. Andy needs to quit his shenanigans with his so-called “girlfriend” (I’m guessing made up) and realize that Erin loves him, just like he loved her while she was with Gabe.
