Working out. Most of us strive to perfect a routine or, in my case, try and figure out what daily routine could be classified as such so I don’t have to participate in extraneous activity. With either preference (the former or the latter) there is always a need for a great playlist to enact movement to. So in my search to determine what exactly a playlist of exercise champions is made of, I stumbled across some great enterprises that do the work for you. In any great workout mix there has to be an underlying determination that will push you to excel at the chosen workout. These lists are just that, and most are able to fit any mood that might have grasp of you.
Runhundred.com Run Hundred is a great tool that is run by an actual music columnist who writes for media outlets such as Marie Claire and Men’s Journal. Basically a list is complied every week and for those who are subscribed (it is free to sign up) a list of 10 up-beat, perfectly sweet workout songs can be emailed to them. This allows the subscribers to listen to samples of the songs and have the option to purchase on Amazon or iTunes. Then listeners can vote for their favorites and at the end of every month the top 10 workout songs are released. In addition, the website offers the option to chose playlists by tempo, genre, decade, or source. A perfectly legit system that exposes listeners to new music that also has the functionality needed for a workout.
Indie Soup Runner This next publication is a great use of the podcast variety. Every week a new podcast is released filled with songs by independent artists that will soundtrack your workout. With creative themes to string together each list, there is always some new tune to catch your exercise fancy. There is always some great indie artist on the rise to be found amidst this carefully crafted podcast. This website accepts submissions for song recommendations and even features interviews on some of the featured indie artists. One of the best things to look forward to on this blog/podcast conglomerate is its massive end-of-the-year playlist, which showcases the best/most popular tunes used throughout the year.
Hopefully these sites will inspire you to pick up those shoes and hit the trail or at least think about doing so. A lot. Here’s an older video that will hopefully inspire you to get creative on that treadmill as well…
