Live and Otherwise: Sold-Out M83

There has been a fair share of sold-out show buzz kill antics this year. There was The Black Keys in April (ahhh what could have been, and minutes from my house at the Mesa Amphitheater), there was Indio’s Coachella (my mouse pointer was literally on the confirm purchase button and I decided to wait- the next day. Poof! All the tickets were gone). Now tragedy has struck once again. French tinged musicians M83 are playing at the Crescent Ballroom tonight. And unless good fortune smiles upon me, I will not be one of those lucky, wholly precious souls in attendance. This is killing me.  Again.

M83 is one of my favorite personal discoveries for this year. Though they have been around for quite some time (the early 2000’s), my late arrival to the game is almost embarrassing. But better late than never right? And it is ridiculously better to have the lovely “Midnight City” blasting through my speakers on a neurotic obsessive repeat. The fact that the older albums were as delightful as the newer increased the happy feeling saturating my musical spirits. With a sound that is a hard cross between pop, shoegaze, and ambient, their dreamy benevolence is quite soothing to the chaotic inner workings of the mind. Supporting the newest release Hurry Up, We're Dreaming, their tour will finally make its way to the valley of the endless sun. With subtle tones and nuances that mesh with the harder more abrasive beats, the end result is quite crafty. And addictive. I fully endorse the Anthony Gonzalez (the mastermind behind the ensemble) bred crack-like auditory sound waves that will commence upon listening. So go on get your fix. And then use the addiction bred adrenaline to break some rules and get us into that concert. Agreed? Yup, Agreed.

M83 is playing this tonight the Crescent Ballroom. This is a sold out show.

Geekin out on M83? Or maybe you are a lucky soul either ecstatic to be going to the show or tortured like me in the most depressing lamentation? Whatever your musical concern, let me know! Email me at gmarsha2@asu.edu, or follow me at @whimsicalwookie.
